Private Health Insurance

Most private insurance providers will reimburse the costs of psychotherapy in full. However, in some cases the fees may not entirely be covered. In Germany, psychotherapy fees are regulated by the official standard fees for psychotherapists (“Gebührenordnung für Psychologische Psychotherapeuten”, GOP). I charge the standard rates (factor 2.3). In some cases, therapy may be particulary complex, needing extended session time or taking place after regular practice hours, on the weekend and holidays. Under these conditions a factor of 3.5 will apply.

Paying for your own therapy

If you wish to cover the costs of therapy yourself, I would be happy to negotiate a suitable payment arrangement for you prior to the start of therapy. Paying for your own therapy has the advantage of keeping your case private.

This is especially important if

  • You wish to join private health insurance at a later point in time.
  • You want to protect your privacy from your public insurance provider.
  • You want to shield yourself from possible questions from your workplace or others.

Your psychotherapy is only four easy steps away:

  1. Contact your health insurance provider and inquire about your reimbursement status. Here is a helpful question checklist.
  2. Arrange an appointment in my practice.
  3. After our initial sessions I will send a formal application to your healthcare provider.
  4. Once the therapy has been approved we may begin the process.
